Swiss and Italian Blend: Ticino

by | Switzerland

Switzerland is one of my favorite places and I have been to it multiple times. This country offers visitors an incredible range of sights and activities. Expect an unforgettable experience that you will treasure for the rest of your life.

A blend of two cultures, Swiss and Italian – Welcome to the region of Ticino. Live la dolce vita in Switzerland!

The Monte Carlo of Switzerland: Lugano in the Ticino Region

The town of Lugano, otherwise known as the “Monte Carlo of Switzerland,” is perfect for travelers looking for neoclassical architecture, mountain railway rides, and traditional lakeside grotto tours.

The panoramic views of Lugano make you want to both focus and close your eyes and take a deep breath. The essence of contrasts is Lugano. It is a garden, a lake and also an urban center. A walk-in Ciani Park reaches the mouth of the Cassarate River. Through Cattedrale, let your steps lead you to the heart of the city. Check out an old-time bookshop in Via Nassa sheltered under the arcades and amongst the shops with the biggest names.

Experience a typical Ticino fare in the grottoes. Polenta cooked over an outdoor fire, zincarlin cow’s milk cheese, mortadella sausage paired with a good merlot that’s a delectable culinary treat.

Michelin Stars:  The Lugano area boasts nine restaurants with 10 Michelin Stars. The area boasts one of the highest densities of Micheline Stars per capita than other areas in the world. For all of you culinary enthusiasts, this is a delicious choice. Beautiful scenery, less crowded, and delectable food. What more could you want?!

In 2021, Chef Cristian Moreschi and his team were awarded a Michelin star. His restaurant at the Villa Principe Leopoldo hotel will take you on a memorable eno-gastronomic journey. Feast on an 8-course gourmet dinner, beverages included, served in the gourmet Restaurant Principe Leopoldo. Not only is the food breathtaking, but so is this Virtuoso hotel property. Remember, when you book with Inspired Travel Designs, you get access to benefits like breakfast daily and a $100 Food & Beverage credit.

Hop on a boat to visit the Brissago Isles. Shoot a photo to remember the beautiful camellias in Gambarogno, and relax with a coffee in Locarno’s Piazza Grande.

See the stunning sunny and welcoming valleys of Vallemaggia and the awe-inspiring flow of the river Verzasca.

Ponti di Salti in the Verzasca valley is ideal for hiking, mountain biking, and relaxing in nature. Forming the valley’s heart is the emerald-green Verzasca river with its polished gorges and deep pools made for summer bathing. This place is popular to be the “Maldives of Switzerland.”

Ticino: Peace and Enchantment That is Sonogno

Sonogno is an enchanting and peaceful village in Verzasca Valley. This charming village is full of houses adorned with flowers and cobbled streets waiting for your photographs.

Sonogno is a springboard for many outings. A valley that’s devoted to nature and where dreams become a reality! Traditional yet innovative.

The Charming Brione Verzasca

You’ll find the Marcacci Castle in Brione Verzasca by Giovanni Antonio Marcacci at the beginning of the 18th century – A home for a nobility member. It is an austere building at the edge of the village. It also has a tower on each corner, surrounded by a high wall with towers of its own; these are ornamental elements rather than defense elements. The external walls show traces in the stucco of carved cornices around the windows and two sundials.

Corippo, the smallest municipality in Switzerland until 2020, is being transformed into an Albergo diffuso – a “dispersed hotel” featuring existing houses in the village converted into hotel annexes.
